Elon Musk Unveils Next-Generation Humanoid Robot: Optimus Gen 2

Elon Musk, the visionary entrepreneur and founder of Tesla, has once again pushed the boundaries of robotics with the unveiling of the second-generation humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2. On October 11th in Burbank, California, Musk introduced this advanced robot, showcasing its ability to perform a wide range of tasks that previous robots were unable to accomplish.

Optimus Gen 2: A Revolutionary Leap

During the unveiling, Musk emphasized that Optimus is Tesla's most significant project to date. He described the robot's potential as "limitless," explaining how it could handle everyday tasks like walking your dog, caring for children, mowing the lawn, and even serving drinks. At the event, attendees witnessed the robot in action, engaging in human-like conversations and serving drinks to the seated guests.

Musk also announced that the Optimus Gen 2 robot would be priced between $20,000 and $30,000 (approximately Rs. 16 to Rs. 25 lakh). This pricing makes it a potentially affordable option for households and businesses alike.

CyberCab: The Future of Transportation

In addition to the humanoid robot, Musk briefly touched on another cutting-edge innovation: the CyberCab. Unlike traditional vehicles, the CyberCab lacks a steering wheel or pedals. Designed with robotics at its core, it promises to reduce operational costs and dramatically increase safety. Musk stated that CyberCabs could be ten times safer than human-driven vehicles and cost as little as 20 cents per mile.

What’s New in Optimus Gen 2?

Tesla’s Optimus Gen 2, introduced in December 2023, boasts numerous improvements over its predecessor. While the earlier version could only walk and talk, the new model is faster and more capable. Equipped with advanced sensors in its fingers, the robot can now "feel" and manipulate objects with a sense of touch, adding a human-like dexterity to its abilities.

Musk previously released a video showcasing the robot performing household tasks, such as picking up a shirt from a basket and folding it neatly on a table. This demonstration was just a glimpse of the impressive upgrades in the latest version.
